Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
- H.S. Diploma or GED is required. If you are currently a high school senior, a diploma must be obtained and submitted to human resources within 30 days of the start of employment.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Begins on Monday, May 19, 2025, and ends on Friday, August 1, 2025
Camp is closed the week of July 4th (6/30/2025 – 7/4/2025)
Position Overview:
Under close supervision, teaches one age group of Zoo Camp along with various other educational classes at the Zoo.
Essential Functions:
- Instructs and supervises one age group of students (K-1st, 2nd-3rd, or 4th-6th) during Zoo Camp. Follows camp curriculum, sets up activities and crafts, presents education animals, and facilitates games. Duties may vary according to age group and curriculum.
- Supervises teen volunteers assigned to their group of campers.
- Organizes recreation activities, supervise program participants, and enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions on Zoo grounds; maintains discipline, monitors behavior, and resolves issues.
- Reports and resolves complaints, requests, safety conditions, security issues, and illegal activities.

Seasonal Camp Counselor
Cameron Park Zoo’s Education Department is looking for Seasonal Camp Counselors.
As a member of the Education Department, the Seasonal Camp Counselor would be responsible
for:
Teaching a session of Zoo Camp:
Zoo Tales, 3-4 year olds (this camp also teaches Explore Waco 12-14 year olds)
Zoo Camp 5-6 year olds
Zoo Camp 7-8 year olds
Zoo Camp 9-11 year olds
Handling other miscellaneous jobs as assigned
Job Requirements
High School Diploma
Valid Texas driver’s license
Self-starter with good organizational skills
Good communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
Willing to handle Animal Ambassadors, including reptiles and invertebrates
The Seasonal Camp counselor is part-time or seasonal full time as scheduled by the Education Curator. The dates for employment are May 19-August 1. With having the week of June 30-July 4 off. Typical work week would be Monday-Friday, 8:00am-1:00pm or 8:00am-5:00pm depending on the camp you are teaching.
Pay is $15/hour.
